Anakron Living History took part in the traditional Ħuġġieġa ta’ San Ġwann in Mellieħa, contributing a medieval presence to an evening dedicated to local culture, heritage and community traditions.

During the event, our participants created a historical display where visitors could explore different aspects of medieval life and speak directly with members of Anakron.

A selection of medieval armour, weapons and military equipment formed an important part of the exhibition. Visitors were able to examine these items at close range while learning more about how they would have been worn, carried and used during the medieval period.

The display was not limited to military history. Historically inspired clothing and everyday objects also helped represent the civilian side of medieval society, giving visitors a broader understanding of the people who worked, traded and lived within medieval communities.

The traditional atmosphere of the Ħuġġieġa provided an ideal setting for living history. The combination of local customs, community activities and historical interpretation helped create an evening where different aspects of heritage could come together.

Events such as this are particularly valuable to Anakron because they allow us to engage directly with the public. Visitors of all ages stopped to view the exhibition, ask questions and learn more about medieval history and the work carried out by the foundation.

Our participation also provided an opportunity to raise awareness of our ongoing project at the Selmun Interpretation Centre, where Anakron is gradually developing an immersive environment inspired by a 15th-century medieval village.
